J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Can anyone with high arches comment on the fit of the various J. Crew loafers? I badly need shoes for fall, and like some I've seen in the previews, but I find that with high arches go a high instep that causes problems with some shoes that aren't cut low as low as ballet flats or pumps. I get a sore spot below my big toe that's not a bunion but is in that general area. I need loafers to fit loosely across the top of the foot. If you have this problem, this question will make sense. If not, I realize I sound like a nut. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

  2. I totally get it, Mary! And believe me, I feel your pain (literally). I have personally never had any luck with JCrew's loafers, although I am fine with most of their boots, pumps and ballet flats. I have found some luck with Anne Klein and Coach loafers but I find that the real key is the softness of the leather/fabric as well as looking for a lower cut across the vamp. Sperrys also work very well, though they may be too casual for your needs. The best I can suggest is a browse through your nearest DSW if you have one, and try on as many brands as possible. Personally I have resigned myself to rarely ever wearing loafers - thankfully high arches make it easier to wear heels!

    1. Thanks Cagliari.
      J. Crew boots work OK for me too, so I was hoping the loafers might work. I'll check out Coach and Anne Klein. Good old Bass and Clarks used to work, but I've had trouble with them lately.

    2. Mary G., you should try Cole Haan. I have a pair of black 'penny' loafers and they are probably the most comfortable shoes I own (aside from sneakers)!

    3. Lauren,
Thanks for the recommendation of Cole Haan for loafers. I have the wedge ballet shoes with Air Nike technology, I think they're called Talia, but never tried loafers.

    4. Mary G., you may also want to try the Everlane loafers. You will need to size up 1/2 size. These have a little more of a pointy toe and aren't as comfortable as the Cole Haan's, but I still love them. I will add that I do have a bunion (just on my R foot) but not high arches that I know of ;)

    5. I second everlane. I've referred tons of people there because I love the quality, and they used to have a good discount when you were referred by a current customer (not sure if they still do, I haven't referred anyone in the last couple of months). I love the simple minimalist design!

    6. Lauren and Anthro Blogger,
Thanks for the reco on Everlane. Would not have thought of them for shoes, but I looked at the site today and the loafers looked promising.
Great suggestions from everyone. I was a straight 6.5 medium in shoes for years. Never had to worry about fit or style. I could wear anything. Now, whether it's years of exercise-induced larger feet, or something else, shoe shopping''s not so fun anymore. Thanks all.

  3. I did order the Madewell Flea Market Flares during one of their promos. I got the regular size but with a short length. I love them!! They are very flattering and the short length is perfect for me (5'3"ish). I really like the rise too. It's not super high which really isn't great on my slightly short-waisted torso, but it's not low rise at all. I'd guess it's a 9 to 9.5" rise. As for sizing, I'd say TTS, to maybe a smidge big. I got them for about $100 and I'm very happy. It's really hard to find flares for short people who aren't true petite size.

  4. I reviewed Madewells suncoast dress in both colors and the new striped tee dress on my IG.
The striped tee dress is very similiar to the striped maxi dress from jcrew, except its not a maxi. Similiar fit and material.

    1. Oh my gosh, I spotted the Collection hummingbird skirt at Marshall's for $7.99 over the weekend. I could barely believe it.

    2. Wow! I hope you bought it. That may be worth a trip to Marshall's this weekend.

    3. Oh my, such a beautiful skirt! I'd gladly pay more than 7.99!

    4. Great finds! I really hope you bought the skirt! If you didn't, could you share the size and location? I'm sure a local JCA would love to snag that.

    5. Yes, sorry, I did buy it. I didn't need it, but I had to at that price. I'm not sure if there were others, since I found it hanging in the wrong section, but it was at the Marshall's in La Jolla Village Square (San Diego).

  6. Stopped into Madewell and Jcrew for some returns.
Madewell in store had sale jewelry for an extra 50% off which was great. Much different than Jcrew jewelry.
I tried the Courier dress in pure white which I've been eyeing online. Aside from the off white color, I loved the fit of the dress. I would def get it in black or chambray, but the white (not at all what you'd expect of pure white) reminded me of a lab coat. (Except off white!) ;) My usual XS was not too loose and not too short and I loved the pockets. I did return one pair of boardwalk lace up sandals because the laces were coming apart, but only on one, so hopefully it was just a defect in that one shoe.
I returned the zip denim coveralls. Super cute but the fit on top bothered me. I'd need to size up to a medium which would make the bottom way too loose.

At Jcrew I would have bought another pair of garden shorts in linen which I love but there was not much available in store. Picked up the charm bracelet with the pearls, stars and tortoise shell discs for myself and a little gift for someone I know will love it.

  7. Received the Collection suede patio pants in camel today. It was a happy mail day. The suede is soft and supple which is what you'd expect for a price tag of almost $500. They're unlined & fit is tts; there's a 1" hem that could be let out if you need more length. I sized up one size because these were final sale & I didn't want to be sorry. I could've gone with my normal size. The fit is good, slightly loose and this neutral works well with the other suede pieces in my closet. If you like this style of pant, I highly recommend them; the price point of $80 is a steal & this is a good time to stock your wardrobe for fall/winter with the sale prices.
