"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I've touched on this in other posts, but I think that the Style Guides need a complete over haul. I don't know about you, but for me, the thrill is GONE. I used to obsessively anticipate the arrival of my new style guide and scour it for hours. Now, it gets looked at and tossed aside. This is not to say that J. Crew doesn't have good stuff. On my last store visit, I thought the store displays were fabulous. There just seems to be a disconnect between the huge appeal of the store and the lackluster looks of the Style Guides.

    1. AGREED 100%. The style guide lacks STYLE. At least what I consider to be good, interesting style. Everything is so drab & dreary, the models look miserable. Also the layering is totally OOC. I love so many of the new pieces but that's from seeing them elsewhere other than the style guide!

    2. I'm annoyed that they often say "see Jcrew.com for additional colors," because I like to use the catalog photos as a cross-check of the way item colors are depicted on my monitor.

I know we say it on this site all the time, but remember Paris 2007? Now that was more than a soi-disant "style guide."

    3. YES. I hate when they refer to jcrew.com for more colors... I prefer to see them in the catalog - in my experience it's a more realistic color depiction.

    4. I couldn't agree more. The September catalog (I refuse to call it a style guide) was the worst I have seen in a long time. The styling was terrible and completely uninspired...the best they can do is "refined" sweats and scarves under layers? Really? They could have found more inspiration here on this board. Maybe I will change my mind after visiting the store but I am not interested in a single item so my fall clothing dollars will likely be spent somewhere else. I truly believe the entire women's design/style team has lost there way...so disappointing!

  2. I SWEAR THE PRICES WENT UP OVERNIGHT! I know I am not crazy...that Endless shirt was NOT $108, and the Classic Link bracelet was $68 before the 25% off. Please tell me that I did not miss something (extreme sad face!)

    1. Are you maybe looking at the Canadian site? On my screen the endless shirt is still $88.

    2. They are back. Perhaps there was a glitch on my screen/with my computer but I checked under both the US and Canadian sites to make sure I was not crazy. No matter, the right prices are back and I am sane again.

  3. I got the September Style Guide yesterday and didn't see ONE thing I want! NOT ONE THING. Maybe I need to visit the store? Who knows. Frankly I was more interested in the "wearing her own clothing" clothing in those personal stories at the beginning of the catalog. The whole section really gave me a mixed message.

    1. Stray Cat, that catalog is not a success. The stuff is generally much better in person, although as usual with JC, sizes are all over the place so try-ons are a good idea.

  4. Why has JC abandoned putting bust darts on women's shirts and blouses?? I love my California Poppy Blouse that I purchased last week, but the fit would be so much nicer with some bust darts!! To compensate for the lack of tailoring, they drop the shoulder seam. Um, hello?? Women usually have curves?? The problem with that is there's pulling when arms are open or raised. Otherwise, the blouse is very pretty, the print is gorgeous and the colors even more vibrant than on the website.

    Just why??

  5. I apologize in advance for this OT question.
I have been waiting for the half moon necklace (item A8091) to pop back up on the website for months, and when it finally did this morning I couldn’t get through the check out fast enough to secure it before it was gone. Has anyone seen it in a store? Maybe I could have a VPS place the order for me if there's one available. Thank you!

  6. Very upset that the madewell plaid cincher vest sold out while the site said it was not available until september second...reached out to customer service and basically got the oh well.
