JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. JCAs, I could use your help styling the Floral Sweatshirt (item # 04966) in navy. I've worn it casually with denim, but I'd love to wear it to work and need some outfit ideas. I've seen some gorgeous ones posted with the sea green/grey colour, but still looking for ideas for the navy. TIA!

    1. Whenever I wear more casual piece to work, I try to pair it with something fairly dressy. I'd try the sweatshirt with a pencil skirt. I could see the navy sweatshirt working with a color pencil skirt and nude heels. You can also try the sweatshirt with a white button-down underneath to up the dressy fact.

  2. Any thoughts on the versatility of the Cleo fabric loafers in the navy and white stripe? I I know I could wear with jeans but not sure if I will be otherwise limited.

    1. Also do I have to stick to plain tops etc?

    2. My two cents: styling-wise, I'd take the cue from J Crew's description of the shoe as inspired by menswear. It would look great with any of J Crew's "boy shirts" for women! Or the schoolboy blazer, etc. Of course, it would also work great as the "exciting part" of a clean, simple outfit (solid sweater and jeans or pants).

I don't think you are limited to solids, but if you wear a print, maybe either make it an accent (scarf? J Crew's floral print baseball cap?), or layer the print under a solid piece (printed shirt under jacket, pullover sweater/sweatshirt or cardigan). I think if the print is blue, you could get away with even more, since it will still share a common thread (color) with the shoe.

    3. ...I also think if you choose a "menswear" style print you can get away with it because it will connect with the shoes thematically. A pinstripe, a foulard, etc. Even the tiny floral prints that you find on a lot of J Crew shirts. Even the French print popover! (Sorry, you got me on a roll!)

  3. New reviews here of the stripe-merino wool sweater,, merino tipped side-panel v-neck sweater, moonglow paisley silk tee & moonglow linen tee. The moonglow tops are still regular price online vs $69.99 & $34.99 in-store. As of the other day, the stores were still running an addtl 30% off final sale.

  4. Does anyone know where the black skirt can be found that they're using to style the STRETCH DENIM JACKET IN LIGHT BLUE (item a1433). Has it not been released yet or have I, sadly, missed it and it sold out with the new release? Thank you!!!!!!

  5. If anyone else was wondering about this, I contacted JCrew and it's coming out next week at $595, not finalized price.

  6. Hi, Gals! Just received an email on my lunch break from J. Crew Factory. The Brick and Mortar stores are offering 50% off everthything in store including new arrivals. The model is wearing the hummingbird heels and clutch, which makes me wonder if those will be available. Just a heads up.

Also a bummer since I just spent money online and I could be getting a better deal at a B&M.

    1. Elizabeth - The website says that the hummingbird pumps are online only. There's no mention of the clutch being online only, but I was told it's not in any stores at this time. They didn't know if the clutch will show up in stores or not.

  7. Thanks for the tip, Gigi! I know this isn't the right spot to mention sales, but I got excited and wanted to share. :) I just officially joined the community, and excited to be with like-minded ladies. :) Happy-almost-friday.

  8. How do you wear printed pants? I'm thinking of getting the hummingbird skimmers, but have no idea how to style them.

    1. As a rule i like "fancy pants" with a solid tippi sweater or sweatshirt over a white or chambray blouse. They also look good layered with a solid, navy blazer. When the weather warms up a blazer over a tank or tee looks nice. Sometimes I wear a shirt with a small pattern, gingham or stripe under a solid sweater. A stripe sweater or tee can look good if you pick just the right one. I usually accessorize with a statement necklace. I haven't seen the hummingbird pants yet but a black or navy v-neck with a crystal necklace might be cute. HTH

  10. Serious damage happens when I'm off on Fridays. I stay awake and order stuff like the Hummingbird pumps, shorts and clutch, optic dot dress and chambray pop-over. The factory store is about an hour away so if one of these beauties doesn't fit...sigh
