J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Silver_lining (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, but not the J.Crew Collection (click here).

I did not think there was an update to the website until I got J.Crew's email this morning announcing that there are two little words: new arrivals.

I do like the Peplum Tops that J.Crew is offering this Summer. The shape is super cute and it looks like it hits the right part of the body.

I know I mentioned this several times already, but I am disappointed with their skirts and dresses. I was hoping this roll out would bring back what is missing from their current offerings. Unfortunately, it did not.
Don't get me wrong, they have some nice pieces in each department. For example, I think the Tipped gamine dress (item 03347; $138.00) is really pretty. However, it is super short. If I bend over, I am going to expose something I do not want too.
Then there is the Silk Midi Skirt (item 03392). I am loving this classic piece! However that excitement diminishes greatly when I look at the price tag of $168. That is just too much to spend on a somewhat basic skirt. J.Crew needs to bring back cotton skirts at reasonable price points.

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. I agree the dresses are way too short this year. I loved the scallop dress but can't even wear it to work because it is so short. Same with the dot shift dress from this spring. Beautiful dress but not wearable for work.

  2. I'm disappointed the Midi skirt comes in only one color! J.Crew usually delivers on the vibrant color options.

I like the linen colorblock dot top in both colors. I also like the striped silk short-sleeve top. Is that truly new? Because it's already sold out in most sizes.

  3. Do you think the Midi skirt is like the Liquid Silk skirt? Have to check it out in stores and hope more colors will follow!

    1. I'm sad because I've been hoping they would bring back the liquid silk in more colours- I wear mine constantly!
This one has some pleats at the waist- I loved the simplicity of the liquid silk version...

  4. I've been very happy with the suiting J.Crew has offered this year, they've been doing classics with a twist nicely. The new Bridget Dress in Super 120s looks good but it's far too hot for me to think about wool.

I am totally with you on the lack of length-appropriate basics, Alexis. It's like every retailer is scared to do quality basics right now for fear of being considered staid but as a result no one is doing classics! It would be earth-shattering at this point to see a cute, simple but elegant knee-length dress or skirt. First retailer to do it wins all my money.

    1. I added the Bridget dress to my wishlist for Fall! Good hemline, good neckline, no plunging back, and the colors are all great basics.

    2. I like the looks of the Bridget dress too.

  5. The midi skirt is 24" long, but sits above the waist. It will probably be not 'midi' on a lot of ladies. This is probably another case of hacking off a few inches between the product shot and production - and it's really getting irritating, JC.

    1. You said it! Isn't 'midi' supposed to be calf length? On me a 24" skirt worn at or above the waist would at the most come to my knee-cap. I'm 5'9" and I know for a fact those J Crew models aren't shorter than me! So misleading!

  6. The silk blouse in Parisian Blue looks really pretty! I also like the geometric and printed eyelet tops. I think the geometric one might be see-through, though. Hopefully it will be in stores to see at some point.

  7. I was looking forward to seeing new arrivals, but everything pretty much looks to be more of the same old thing. Like Alexis and others, I was also hoping for a couple of pretty dresses & skirts in longer lengths. Let's hope they have at least a couple of them to debut for this coming fall.

    1. This isn't it for the July rollout, is it? Has anyone seen a catalog yet?

    2. When I asked about the August catalog this afternoon, I was told next week. However, this particular store is extremely stingy about handing out the catalog early. Others will probably see it in store by the weekend. Some scattered new arrivals in store. Can't even think about fall as it is really humid here so I just made some returns and left.

    3. Thanks shopalot! I haven't seen the catalogs in store yet, maybe I'll take a look before the weekend.

  8. The Tipped gamine dress comes in Petite, Regular and Tall sizes. I hope in the future there will be more dresses for the tall ladies.

  9. How sad. They're in a rut right now. I keep wondering if Marissa Webb's departure had them scrambling for designs and that's why we're seeing half-rate repeats.

  10. Alexis , I agree. I keep waiting for flattering wearable now(not cashmere or sequins) dresses. As for the lengths- I wrote a post last month about my VPS's take on them...

I'm 5'2" so I can't imagine how they fit on taller women!

  11. I will go have a look but all the comments so far seem to be about how short things are so I don't know if I should bother!

  12. The Tipped Gamine Dress is cute. I think the Tall version would be a good option to try, as it's 3 inches longer.

I also liked the silk blouse and a couple of tees.

  13. Yep, I agree the skirts and dresses are too short. I also agree with gigofca that it appears with Ms. Webb's departure, the J.Crew design team is in a coma.

I have some pics of the color-block (black and white) flare mini skirt on my blog today: seaquinedseagull.blogspot.com. I actually like the skirt a lot and I wear it on the hips so it gives enough length. They had it styled fairly high and I cannot pull that look off. I'll have to really look at the new (few) items again but nothing popped out for me this time, which is good since it's mid-summer now and I have enough items.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Where are the items that make you gasp with oohs and ahhs? I don't see anything like the citrus perfect shirt. Summer should be about color and fun.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Wow, I LOVE that gamine dress. I do wish they'd make dresses that end just above the knee. Mid-thigh is never work appropriate at any age.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don;t like ponte for summer but in tall version Gamine version should be long enough if you are under 5'8. I think 39" would definitely be knee length.
Talking of dresses, I reviewed Frances dress in watercolor floral HERE. It is currently available in few sizes on the website so I thought maybe somebody is interested.

  17. I've learned not to expect too much from July/January rollouts over the years, but does the world really need ANOTHER J. Crew blue boucle-knit jacket, striped boatneck tee, or preschooler-length dress?

Especially since all the similar ones from the May rollout are still languishing in the sales section at $29.99 - 40%?

It's very unusual for me to miss a weekly store visit (more often with the great promos), like in the past 10 years, but this may be the week.

  18. i added both to my wishlist! luckily i'm petite so i can get the normal size dresses and have them be long enough.

  19. I saw some Fall pieces already in my store. There was a deep burgundy colored Minnie and some pretty colored V neck cashmere sweaters in a burgundy and camel. That's about it. The SA said the Fall rollout will be here in 2 weeks.

    1. Was this Minnie in wool, or twill? I have the wool ones from last winter, and was hoping for navy this time.

      Delete
    2. The Minnies were in wool, but looked and felt thin. Very pretty shade of Burgundy, though.

      Delete
    3. Rose, the Minnies in my store were 95% cotton, 5% spandex. I checked all the colors other than the burgundy, but the others were sitting next to the burgundy. The ones I saw were marked at $89.50. So take a look at the tag to make sure you're buying the ones you want, it seems like both versions are in stores, depending on the store. I am still waiting on Navy Cafe Capris (without the white piping stripe down the legs, please, J. Crew!).

  20. I have found some more work appropriate skirts; but, alas, they are always high end designers which puts them out of my price range.

  21. A few cuts in-store - colletion featherweight anchor sweater, linen pinepple pocket tee, sailboat tee, big dot Carrie dress... I didn't really notice addtl cuts on some of the items that have been sitting there. However, my store is not that great w/the ticket gun. So if there were any, they wren't marked.

July cuts in red in the In-Store Price Guide.

  22. I own the tipped dress. Purchased in Manhattan more than a week ago. It actually has this elastic panel in the middle, separating the top and the skirt. Debating a return as it just seems odd. Anyone try this on yet or own it?

    1. I tried it on in store and noticed that extra panel and was trying to figure out what sort of design element it served and why it wasn't seamless.

    2. cuckoo, they were probably cutting costs and using up small scraps of fabric! lol

  23. Having received the sandstone Tartine Satchel today, I see why this is a much loved bag. (And I do see why some fear the potential for scratches on the leather, but since I received mine with the extra 40% off sale price, I will live with it and baby it as much as possible!)

However, now I am all in LOVE with the pebbled texture version they rolled out today, especially in the deep grey color. I doubt that this shade will make it to as deep of a discount as the sandstone did, but I will go ahead and ask J. Crew to throw a bone and give us a 20 or 25% off all items, pretty please?

Regarding the rest of the rollout, yeah, pretty yawnsville, but it is mid-July, and if I recall from past years, it is always sort of ho-hum right around now, right? Although the Fall 2013 is looking pretty dreadful from what I have seen...

    1. I have to agree with you, Dina. Yawnsville and dreadful is the best way to describe rollouts...too bad. J. Crew used to be wonderful. I looked forward to each rollout because it was exciting! Now, I don't even bother browsing the new arrivals since I never find anything worth drooling over.

  24. Have to agree with a lot of you that this one really made me yawn. Nothing I'm interested in, or don't already have in some version or another. Looking forward to fall, but the lookbook doesn't really have me excited.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nothing at all in this rollout interests me.
I am quite excited about the Fall stuff, though - I think some of it looks amazing!
I enquired about pre-ordering, and posted some prices that I was sent by a VPS on my blog here.
The items I enquired about were the following.
The Collection Palma Sweater (Style #03329)
The Collection Topper Coat in Printed Wool (style #04909)
The Collection Iris Pencil Skirt in Chichimila Tweed (Style #05256)
The Collection Mila Jacket in Chichimila Tweed (Style #05840)
The Collection Zelda Cashmere Crewneck Sweater (Style #08152)

  26. I'm just going to wait until Fall...new fall items are supposed to be in stores in 3 weeks...that's what the SA at Americana told me. I hope all the inspiration went directly to fall because there is nothing in the newest arrivals that makes me smile. No smile, no buy.

  27. Intrigued by the stripe wrap skirt (I find Jcrew's pencil skirts to be very stiff and also way too long on me), but I also have a feeling the 'wrap' part won't cross over properly or will gape open

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Gabriela - I posted a review a few weeks ago (search the item # and it will probably come up). I found that the wrap definitely had the potential to open up - plus it fell right at the front rather than on the side. I thought it was a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen, unfortunately.

  28. Shekster, I decided to keep the size 8 Collection Jeweled-Collar top (I think that was you who was looking for it?). Keep stalking sale, I'm sure it's going to turn up there one of these days.

  29. July 23rd is when next rollout should be in stores.

I tried on the Merino Swing Sweater today (item #02694). I can't remember the last garment that made me look so gigantic. I like an oversized sweater, but this is cut all wrong.

I also tried on the Merino Tippi Sweater in Mixed Stitch (item #02692). I liked the size up from my usual. I loved the stretchy knit. The heather/graphite/black color didn't look great on me, wish I'd tried on the navy/neon/fuchsia instead.

The Tipped Gamine Dress was in store but I did not try it on. It is another version of the ponte dresses we've seen sleeveless recently, which didn't fit me that well (too big on top, too small through middle).

The Sparkle Crewneck Sweater (Item #03537) looked cute but it is very sheer in the Sparkle Sky color (didn't notice the Sparkle Peach color).

  30. I put this in the JC-Like Retailers thread, but I wanted to share it in case you're not subscribing to it. I reviewed a few Banana Republic dresses in this post. They do dresses way, I mean waaaay better than J Crew. Save up to 45% online on regular price items, today only. The promo will continue in-store thru Sun.

  31. I tried on the gamine dress in navy today. So disappointed. The middle panel is placed lower than what I would expect and looked a little funny. The white piping around the hem made the skirt fall funny. I thought it was too short too (I am 5'9). It was too bad because if well executed it would make a great dressy but casual dress perfect for me at work on casual Fridays. I also thought the price was crazy. I am in Canada and while I can't remember the exact price, if I recall correctly, it was at least $160.00. One last comment- I think it runs a bit large as I am a pretty consistent size 4 in jcrew dresses but could have gone with a 2 in this one.
