J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I received the last of my super sale stuff late last week. Here are some reviews:
Merino boyfriend sweater in warm peacock. I got size xxs and it' very oversized on me. I'm only about 5'2" (158cm), so it is quite a bit longer than on the J Crew model. Despite this, I'm happy with it. The colour is a greenish teal, and really quite lovely. I'll mainly be wearing it with skinny pants and leggings as it's way too big to wear with skirts on me.

  2. Won't let me type more so I'll continue:
Cashmere herringbone sweater in plum/lilac, size xs. This is totally amazing. I have quite broad shoulders, so the xs is a good fit, although probably could have gone an xxs. I really love the pattern, sleeve length and colours. It feels v good quality too.

Finally, the double cloth slim trench in cobalt blue, size 00P. I'm so thrilled with this! It's a beautiful colour and the style is perfect on my short frame. It's quite snug on the shoulders and bust (I am rather busty), so I won't be able to fit many layers under it, but for Sydney winters that's not such a problem. It hits mid thigh on me, and the sleeves are almost perfect length. Such a great bargain! I'm almost eager for winter so I can wear it!

Thanks to the JCAs who advised me on my purchases. This is such a great place for info and help!

    1. That trench does look ever so cute on the site. Look out Sydney here she comes.

    2. Ruth, I was thrilled with the double cloth slim trench too. It did feel a bit snug on me also, and I sized up to accommodate layers (need that in Canada ;). It's a flattering coat, even with a looser fit.

    3. I'll be dazzling Sydney with my bold blueness! It's still summer now, though, so Patience needed. Am lusting badly after the Pixelated Houndstooth skirt. Can't believe how much more $$$ it is on the Aus site :-(

    4. Glad u like the coat Ruth. It is like being pregnant or having a puppy total strangers will comment on your blue coat, I have found. Enjoy!

  3. Could somebody comment on the translucent stone bracelet.
Is it pale mint or pale yellow?
    Are the stones big?
    TIA

    1. Ina. I just purchased this bracelet last night. It is light mint, the stones are 1/2" and there are 8 of them. So IMHO pretty small by JCrew standards. HTH

    2. Forgot to ask what lenght it is?
Would you mind measuring it for me?
      TIA

    3. I thought it fit me well (small wrist) and it is only 7", I still have the tags on so it maybe a tiny bit bigger but most bracelets are usually 7 1/2".

  4. Hi everyone!

I recently tried on the scroll print jules dress, the oxford rhinestone top, the downtown jacket, tipped boy shirt, rosie dress, and tweed front tee on my blog, here. Let me know what you guys think!

  5. I posted a short review and photos of the Two-tone waffle cardigan on my blog here. This one still shows up in the sale section on a regular basis.

  6. Hi....from the 40% off sale -so a bargain
    - the diamond maxi dress fits huge and is just a thin cheap cotton
    -the cocoon coat...love it
-stovepipe pants(not as tapered as name would indicate)
loving the coats this winter and will try to get another if there is a promo again
++is this the first week since oct /12 we have not had some kind of promo...I was used to always there being SOMETHING its feb and they better start getting rid of all those sweaters. Carolyn from Vancouver

    1. Hi, Carolyn, I'm sorry you're disappointed in the diamond maxi, I'm travelling and am in Oahu now, that dress is the perfect pool/beach coverup, flutters becomingly in breezes and is light and thin and not hot in 80* weather, Got lots of compliments as I walked thru the hotel lobby yesterday, and the thing takes up no room in my suitcase. It is definitely a cover-up, not a dress, but I no longer expect very specific descriptions from JC.

    2. The one I received had one of the side seams sewn outside ( backwards ) And the seams were all sewn wonky ( not straight ) I guess at sale price it was about $50 Canadian dollars this I thought was at least better than than $ 100 it started at....maybe if I had tried a smaller size but the sewing of it was like a child did it....hope it was a one.off Carolyn from Vancouver

    3. I didn't like the Diamond Maxi dress on me either. It kind of swallowed me up. It was a nice weight, but I think it runs big.

      Delete
    4. I have it in a XXS (I am a XS in almost everything) and I agree with WFF that it is the perfect pool/beach cover up. Definitely overpriced at $98 but for the price that I paid ($40) I think it is great.

    5. yes on stovepipe. they must have been pinned on the model - they were cute on me, but cute like a normal not-SUPER-wide-leg trouser, not slim like i was hoping.

  7. Carolyn--I am with you. I understand--if I were JCrew I would worry about how I've made all my shoppers addicted to promotions. But with all the stock going back to the warehouse . . . you'd think there might be another promotion? Maybe? One more hurrah for sweaters and coats?

  8. Chambray shirtdress (38936) - short, short, short. With my hands at my sides it ended around my wrists, making it totally unwearable as a dress, but too tight at the bottom to wear as a tunic. Can't say I'm surprised. I did like the wash and the one pocket - however, the interior size tag had dye rubbed off on it (as did the tag in the circle popover). No pockets.

      TIA

    2. Hi simplydreaming, I'm a hair under 5'5". I should've known - in Look #5 of the "Dear Denim" section, it's so short that the Thomas Mason shirt worn under it is longer. Boo!

      Delete
    3. Ugh yea. I'm 5'2" and I took this dress home with me this weekend, but am still contemplating returning it because of the length (or lack thereof). Even wearing it with flats, I fear what would happen when I sit down, or worse... drop something.

      Delete
    4. silver_lining, I almost couldn't believe it. Had to check for myself. I'm hoping that maybe they had it shortened for that particular shoot, otherwise that is just beyond ridiculous.

      Delete
    5. Thank you silver-lining! I received mine today and while it is short on me I think it is tolerable. I am only 5'3 and the size 0 hits right at the end of my finger tips on the sides. It is longer than that in the front and back, trying to decide if it is worth full price though

      Delete
  9. @silver_lining: Thank you! now I can cross that one off my wish list :) I already have a chambray shirtdress from Madewell that is a very light blue...I'd love it if it was just a tad darker, but the length is perfect so I'll just shut up and be content with what I've got.

  10. Wore the #2 pencil skirt in the medallion paisley yesterday and loved it. It did stretch out a bit through the day, but not too badly. You can see it http://classicwatwist.blogspot.ca/

  11. I bought the brocade top last week and wore it Saturday to a daytime function with a black pencil skirt, nude pumps and the ivory Charade blazer from madewell. The top is great, fits TTS without being snug anywhere. It has an easy fit that worked well with jeans in the fitting room and was just right with the skirt. I received compliments from nearly all of the women at the event. I added the hammock pearl necklace and my own gold stud earrings which finished the look perfectly.

    1. I did buy it and love it. It has a lot of great texture to it and I found the colors to be perfect for spring. The background is a lilac purple with the houndstooth stitch pattern a red/orange. I take a 2 in Jcrew pencil skirts and a 4 in the flair/a-line ones and I took a 4 in this one. I think it is unique and a lot of fun! I do have pics of it. Just send me an email and I will send them along to you. kpuntillo at gmail.com

    2. I just received my pixilated (pixelated?) houndstooth skirt yesterday and I love it! The color combination is really nice. The skirt has pockets too! I usually take a size 4 in the pencil skirts and the size 4 was fine for me in this skirt. I just wish I could wear it now... a little too springy looking for my area now.

  13. Hi ladies! I went back to J.Crew today so I could verify that I wasn't nuts when I thought I'd seen a new, Asian print Jules. It was there! Here's a photo of it. It runs pretty large; I tried my usual 6 on and it was spacious to say the least. The SAs said they think it's store only for now. The style # is 29093 for anyone interested.

    1. roxy, that is the botanical print Jules dressthat has already gone on final sale and sold out. It does pop back from time to time. Sounds like the SAs were pretty clueless!

    3. There was a bunch of them in different sizes on Ebay over the weekend, sold for average of $128.

    4. I saw those and was completely surprised that they went for the same price that I got mine during the sale.

  14. OT, but has J.Crew ever offered a NAVY double-serge pencil skirt, either in cotton or wool? Seems like that would be a no-brainer offering each year. I would snatch one up, especially in wool, in a heartbeat! It's definitely something I am missing in my wardrobe.

  15. I got the Nolita jacket in indigo and I am loving it. I have worn it almost every day. The material is thin (for a jean jacket) and soft. They had the sleeves rolled up in the store and it looks cute worn that way. I ordered a small online with the promo but I ended up going into the store and exchanging it for an XS. The small was too boxy for the look I was going for. The XS is pretty tight buttoned but, as someone on Gigi's blog said, you don't really need to button a jean jacket. I think the color is much better IRL than on the website.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I ordered the merino boyfriend sweater in sour lemon with the 20% off coupon. The merino is thin but substantial and smooth, and has a lovely drape. The sour lemon colour is a pale and very acidic green-toned yellow, almost but not quite neon. I ordered XS and it is still quite oversize on me (I normally wear S in JC wool or cashmere sweaters) but I know the sleeves of the XXS will probably be too short on me. I love this sweater and cannot wait to wear it when the weather warms up a little, it will be perfect for early spring.

I also have a few Madewell reviews in case anyone is interested. I ordered a bunch of things during the 40% off/free ship promo and have been really pleased with nearly everything I ordered.

    - I ordered two pairs of the skimmers, one in python print, the other in crystal blue suede. They were bargains for the quality - made in China but all leather uppers and lining. I usually wear 7.5 in shoes but went with a size 8 as they have a pointed toe and one of my feet is slightly larger than the other. The size 8 was the right call, as these fit comfortably without squeezing my toes. The crystal blue colour is a fabulous bright blue, very close to the shade that I see on my computer screen. Can't wait to wear them this spring!

    - I ordered the silk peplum top and found that it is non-vanity sized - the medium fits very well, whereas I normally wear XS/S/2/4 in JC tops. It is very flattering and well made.

    - I also ordered the silk checked boyshirt in the black and red check pattern - very thin, floaty silk but not so thin as to be sheer or snag-prone. The red colour is a nice deep true red colour. I tried both XS and S and found that the S was perfect while the XS was too small and the sleeves too short.

    - Finally, I got the silk cutaway skirt in the Flowersketch pattern, a yellow and grey floral toile pattern. I took a risk as there was only size 6 available, but seeing as Madewell seems to run slightly smaller than JC sizes, I figured it was worth it, especially at only $54. It was worth the risk - totally gorgeous skirt in substantial silk. The hips are slightly wide on me, but it is an easy fix for my tailor to take in the extra fabric.

All in all, a great haul from Madewell and I am sure to be shopping there more often as their quality seems to be very good and they also seem to run free shipping promos more often than J. Crew.

    1. Have you ordered any dresses from them? I'm looking at one of the shirt-dresses, but I'm not sure how the fit would be (I'm usually between and 2 and 4 at J.Crew). Any thoughts?

      Delete
    2. Hi Whitney, I ordered the long sleeve tunic dress in XS and it was too small - a size Small would have been better I normally wear size 4 in JC dresses and size 4/XS/S in JC tops. I would say if you are between 2 and 4 at J. Crew, you should be okay with a size XS.

  18. I pre-ordered the crystal cluster necklace (supposed to be re-released sometime in February)and it just arrived. When I opened the box, a stone had already fallen out. Has this happened to anyone else?

    1. I would love to see a pic of the necklace you are talking about. But to answer your question, yes I have received jewelry from Jcrew in the past with stones missing or out rolling around loose in the box. I have called and they have sent a new one.

    3. I have, and love, this necklace. Two stones have fallen out of mine since this fall, but luckily I found them on the floor, so maybe this is a common thing with the setting of this necklace (glue instead of prongs). I used some epoxy to put the stones back in and they've stayed put so far.

      Delete
    4. The same thing happened to me with the Lulu Frost necklace I'm wearing today on my blog. The necklace was a pop-back so I can't get a new one. I glued the stone myself. I'm to the point where I don't want to order their jewelry unless the stones are secured by prongs!

The crystal cluster necklace is beautiful. I hope your new one arrives with all stones intact. :)

    5. Thanks for the input! I'm so disappointed about the necklace. I'm not sure whether to re-order, though I did get a great price on it while the 30% off regular items was going on! BTW, I love your blog A Bigger Closet!

  19. 5" Red Chino Shorts: True red, but very bright. Hopefully the color will fade and calm down after some washings. If I could fade out the neon pink ones, I can probably fade these too. Does anyone have a faster way to fade bright colors, other than just washing them a lot?

Fleece Shorts: Heather Red is great, and the color I wish the red Chino shorts were. Love these, and got them in the Heather Steel color, too. Have front pockets. Waist band is stretchy. The tie at the waist look like a shoe string.

Skinny Fleece Pants: These are definitely not the Saturday pants. I got the same size as my Saturday pants and these are much looser. The bottom has a sweatpant-like cuff. There are two patch pockets in the back, but no pockets in the front. There is a fake fly in front (why??). Waist tie is the shoestring thing on these too. These are really comfortable.

Liberty Shirt in Lodden print: Really beautiful! Wish I'd bought it in the store, though, because it's got creases that I'll have to iron out before wearing it.

Seersucker shorts and 5" Chino shorts in Sea Glass color. I'm going to return these. The color is nice but not on me. I got the 5" Chino shorts in Soft Mint and these I will keep, prefer this color on me. The seersucker fabric is nice but I prefer the chinos.

Chambray Shirtdress: Short, but I'm going to keep it and treat it like a tunic. I could only wear this at the beach or pool without pants/leggings under it. Nice fabric. It is 50% cotton 50% linen. Machine wash, tumble dry low, but I'm not sure I'm going to risk the dryer.

    1. Cate,
if the shorts can take being wash in hot water, that's probably the fastest way. Or if you live in an area that has hard water, just skip the vinegar :-) Learned this the hard way, sadly!

      Delete
    2. Thank you, yes I think they can take the hot water. I'm willing to roll the dice, anyway! I always skip the vinegar, oops... sorry you had a problem, though. I've learned a few lessons the hard way too!

      Delete
    3. Cate, what are you planning to wear with the soft mint shorts? I just received mine but can't decide if they are too light? I can see them with navy, white etc.

      Delete
    4. Ahhhhh, typo, I meant washed (stickler for grammar here!)
I have really hard water and my colors fade like nobody's business if I don't use vinegar and cut down on the soap, so hot water is a must to keep stuff clean. Oh, and I forgot to mention, if you can dry them in the sun, that helps too. The sun fades everything!

      Delete
    5. LizT, I am not sure yet. Navy or chambray would work. Or the right shade of gray maybe. I think there is a lot of this color out lately so I may look at the recent style guide to see what they did with it.

      Delete
    6. Anthro Blogger, thanks - hadn't thought about drying them in the sun. That's going to have to wait for better weather, though!

      Delete
    7. A second report on the Skinny Fleece Pants: Washed and dried in the dryer, and they shrunk a lot, all except in the waist. They are much shorter and the legs now fit like the Saturday Pants (tight fitting). They were very loose before. I may report on them again to say whether they stretch out again with wear. I expect they will stretch out in the legs, but not in the length... will see.

      Delete
    8. Thanks for a report on the Skinny Fleece pants. I’ve been eyeing these lately. I do love the Saturday Pants…but my pill something awful in the thigh area, so maybe these are a better alternative.

      Delete
    9. Third report on Skinny Fleece Pants (haha, sorry!): The knees and thighs are stretching out but the length remains shorter than original and the cuffs are staying tight at the bottoms.

  20. Mint and navy diamond pattern wool sweater arrived. It is enormous. I always struggle with whether I need an S or XS in sweaters. I'm honestly not sure that even an XS would be small enough. So back it goes. Thank goodness for no final sale. So disappointing. I find this sweater big and boxy and not particularly flattering. But that could just be me.

    1. I had to size way down on this as well. The sleeves were just unusually huge. I loved it otherwise, but was very glad I bought it in a store.

  21. Tried the sera top in medallion paisley. Love the print but the top runs HUGE. I Think even a size down would be looser than I would like. Considering exchanging and tailoring it cause the print is so lovely.

Also tried the pink tweed front tee. Color doesn't look like the one on the website - its more of a bubble gum pink. Also fit really boxy on me. I know the top received a lot of jca love but i didn't like it that much. Maybe if it was more tailored I can see how it would look flattering. But I thought the black stitching around the neckline looked kind of cheap. Maybe the navy one is nicer.

  26. I regularly check this blog for info...thank you! I am curious if anyone has ordered pants this last season? I purchased the Hutton, wool cafe Capri, and a city fit pant. I have found the fabric to be flimsy, and shapeless. The city fit bag right under the read...ugh. I have always loved jcrew but I think these Are the last pants I buy in a long time. 1. I stopped buying their wool pants when they stopped lining them. I do love their Bennett chinos, and I bought the sailor pants from the new rollout and really like them a lot (despite the fact that they're a poly blend). In general, though, J.Crew's pants are not the same terrific quality that they used to be.

      Delete
    2. Same here. I stopped buying when they stopped lining them. I think a lot of people are rejecting the unlined wool pants, as tons of the wool cafe capris lingered on the clearance racks at $9.99, originally $128.

    3. Cass I agree. I bought the wool Cafe Capris on a work trip in black and grey. It was an itchy trip. I kept them because I wore them but the only pants I've bought since are the Waverly Chinos and the Bootcut Cords, both of which I still love (unless they change those).

  28. I recently got the J. Crew factory perfect shirt in “old barn” (weird name) and factory always cardigan in ivory, both available now in stores and online. The “old barn” pattern is exactly the plaid I’ve been looking for; love the fun colors (matches with so many things!) I got one size bigger than normal to prevent button gaping. The factory Always Cardigan actually seems improved in quality (I have several of these from prior years) and it's great. It does run a tad big though and I probably should have stuck with my usual one size smaller in these cardis (but liked the length on the medium).

I wore these items in my post here

In the post I'm also wearing the toothpick cords in cabernet that I got on final sale and the Madewell Archive boots in English Saddle. These boots are wonderful, but a caution that the calves seem to run super small. I have regular-sized calves but I had to return the first pair that I got due to the small calves and even the extended calf size just fits (and it this was my first time ever buying extended calve boots). The color is great, a ruddy cognac color.

  29. Dear JCAs,

I recently spent way too much money on a laptop that I need to take to school. I'd love an inexpensive and stylish monogrammed bag to carry it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I need either a shoulder bag or a messenger style.

  30. On Jackie .... and deciphering the names J Crew has for light green

Jackie stripe - I recently purchased the Jackie cardi and pullover in stripe (item 36454). The have a lot of stretch (not a hint, a LOT), which is good because they're too tight. I get the Tippi in large and they fit loose. I realize the Jackie is intended to be a closer fit but it's a little ... too close. And the pink is Crayola crayon pink. It's kind of ...ugly.

If you are between the age of 14 and 24, rail thin and flat-chested, this will look great on you! As for the rest of you, better options await.

Jackie - I also ordered the Jackie cardi and shell in fresh mint, which is a lovely blue-green shade. In terms of sizing, I ordered the Jackie shell and cardi in my usual large, and they fit perfect. Not loose like a Tippi, not too snug -- just right. They also don't seem to have those obnoxious stretchy threads in them that the accounting team [well, it wouldn't be a designer] decided to put in the stripped duo.

In terms of color, fresh mint is bluer than my spearmint bubble necklace and my sheer mint bangle (which, oddly enough, are both exactly the same colour).

[To recap: Spearmint=Sheer mint, Fresh mint = novel minty green with a hint of blue]

And as for that sheer mint bangle, I could barely get it over my hand. My wrist is about 6 1/4 inches around. If you are a large boned lady, better try before you buy.

Now, as for young Rip-a-Roo posting above, who wants to buy an inexpensive, stylish monogrammed bag, after having spent too much on a laptop....well, let's save that advice for another night.

    : )

    1. I ordered the Jackie in Sea Glass and Fresh Mint too. Loved the Sea Glass color and liked the Fresh Mint color. The Fresh Mint was bluer than I expected but it's fine. I think the color I really want is Breeze.

    2. hi-- is either color close to a true aqua? I have been wanting some shorts in that old color but has not been re-issued yet and thought one of these may be close to an aqua? tia!

      Delete
    3. I think the Fresh Mint is close to aqua, in fact it's more aqua than mint. It's also slightly darker than the online picture which is why I was expecting something more pale. It's not dark, just slightly darker.

  31. I received my Cocoon coat in black, and it is love, ladies. I have literally purchased every single oat J Crew offered this year, and none of the worked, but the Cocoon coat is perfect! I read here that the coat runs large so I sized down. I'm usually an XXS/00 in tops/sweaters and a size 0/2 in pants and pencil skirts but a solid 0 in coats and schoolboys this year. I ordered the 00 and it gives me a lovely shape both open and closed and it fits comfortably. The sleeves are a great length. It is just a smidge form fitting around the hips when zipped (not tight, but not cocoonish, if that makes sense) but I fear a 0 might be too large. If you own this coat please chime in.
The fabric is warm and soft and the coat seems really well made. No threads or crooked seams that I noticed. It looks like such a classic coat! I'm going to try to post pictures on my blog over the next couple of days, so I'll update here when I have.

    1. I snagged it in green the second it went on sale. Had tried it on in store and realized it ran big. I took a 6 in the Lady Day this season, but the 4 Cocoon had just the perfect amount of room.

I agree the coat is gorgeous and this morning alone I saw 2 other girls wearing it, one in black, one in peach. It's very flattering on people of every shape.

    2. I have it in Heather Graphite also in 00 and I agree it is a fantastic coat! Warmer than the double cloth coats IMO, and soft. I love it so much have been stalking the site to see if it pops back in a 00 in the Dublin green or black.

  32. Oh, yeah, and I also purchased the Striped Jackie cardigan and sweater in navy. They seems TTS for Jackies (the sweater tighter than the cardi) but I just couldn't get over the feel of the knit. It feels like plastic. The cardigan is lovely with the gold anchor buttons if you can get over the high synthetic content, but back they both go.

  34. Can anyone comment on the sizing of the Silk Short Sleeve Blouse? I've been waiting out the navy and ivory colourways to go on sale before "pulling the trigger." If I order my perfect shirt size, will I swim in them? If I size down, will they be too tight in the bust (36A)? Thanks in advance!

    1. Also, has anyone heard through an SA or VPS whether there's another additional % off promo coming up soon? $105 each is still, um, pricey.

    2. shargey, I took my boyshirt/perfect shirt size in these but I think that you'd be able to size down for this blouse. I always size up in the boyshirt/perfect shirt to prevent gaping at the bust (34C). HTH

PS: they are now on regular (not final) sale.

  35. I ordered a good bit from this rollout, but I'm wondering if anyone can comment on how sheer the Ivory Tipped Silk Boy shirt is? And also the Gingham in Neon Blue? Is the gingham shirt the nice sueded cotton they did last year or is it that sheer cotton that looks flimsy after a couple of washes?

    1. If you're talking about the Boy Shirt in Neon Gingham, it's the nice sueded cotton. I have the pink one and it's very soft.

    2. It looked like it in the catalog but I wasn't sure, thanks Whitney!

    3. I just received the albaster/black tipped boy shirt from the new rollout today and it is VERY sheer. Will absolutely require a camisole underneath. Happily it is a true white - no nasty yellow like the collection nightall similar shirt from the Fall. Wish it wasnt see through but will likely keep for the style and white color.

    4. kathryn you sound like me, I hate that yellow beigey tone, it just looks old and soiled to me. I really like the style and silk would look so nice under a suit jacket. I'll order it but wish it wasn't so sheer. Thanks so much!

  36. Love the new Liberty print items…the Lodden print perfect shirt was a tad muted irl, but still beautiful. But the real winner was the June’s Meadow print…love! If the blazer and shirt with this print make it to sale, I will have to seriously consider them.

Took the boy shirt in mint strawberry plaid home since the colors and fit are wonderful. TTS (took my normal perfect shirt size) and it has a bit of a slim cut to it. And for me, it doesn’t gap in the chest area, which is a huge plus. My only concern with this shirt is the weight of the fabric…it is a tad heavier than I was expecting in a spring shirt. Just concerned I’m going to be dying in it in come late spring. It is just a bit heavier than my black watch perfect shirt from this fall. But I guess that could be a pro since it should hold its shape and probably why it doesn’t gap on me.  And…just a heads up, although it is paired with white pants online, it doesn’t have true white in it…more like an off-white.

*Tweed-front tee..wanted to love, but it was really boxy and short on me. TTS..and even a tad large, but if you size down it maybe too short. Didn’t like the pink in person, but on, it was lovely and would be nice with black skirt, pants, etc. The navy would be nice with jeans. I was surprised how soft the shirt overall was for having tweed on it, not extremely stiff and the off white portion of the pink shirt is not too sheer.
*The merino colorblock sweater is nice in person, but the pink is more peachy irl.
*The chambray shirt dress was fine on my at 5’3 but that shape didn’t work on my hourglass-ish type body. It didn’t hang well on my back side…felt like I needed a belt..something to help it look right on me.
*Knit Tunic Dress suffers from an identity crisis. What is it? I like the shape…but the material for a cover-up is too hot and it is too short for a dress. I tried it on to make it work for a dress…and I’m not sure I couldn’t do it, even at 5’3. But that indigo color, which is a cobalt blue is gorgeous. May could size up to give it more length?
*Featherweight French Terry Sweatshirt was nice…but not worth full price. This one is has more of a slim cut than previous sweatshirts lately, thankfully. But, imo, not sure these will hold up to many trips in the washer. The colors are nice…so if these hit super sale, I will get one.
*The colorblock tartine satchel….love the colors and concept, but I underwhelmed in person. The size was perfect for me, but the leather was already scratched and seemed almost fake in a way. Not sure if anyone knows what I mean by that…but not impressed by the quality for the price point. My search for a new carryall is on.

OT, but I posted something about it in Other Retailers thread. Found almost identical replica to the anchors aweigh blouse at my TjMaxx stores here from the Cynthia Rowley brand they carry. Just a heads up.

    2. Ladies,
How do you like the strawberry plaid shirt? I am thinking about getting it but at full price, it better be something I love and get a lot of wear out of. I haven't seen it in person but looks really pretty online.

    3. I love the fit of this shirt...probably one of the best fitting shirts I've bought in awhile. And the colors are so lovely. But a small issue I'm having is trying to find what to wear with it besides jean shorts/ jeans. It doesn't pair with anything true white and I tried to pair it with black bottoms (skirt, pants, shorts) and that combo looked just okay. I think the black pairing may overwhelm the beautiful spring colors in the shirt. My SA suggested pairing it with the sea glass, I believe, Jackie cardigan. And I think I may pair it with the bright indigo or sea glass chino shorts.

So... There is my long overview. :) I tried it on for my mom and she said it was a must keep.

  37. Is it my imagination, or did the vintage v-neck tee in stripe drop in price from $32.00 to $26.50? Why, that is almost reasonable for a j.crew t-shirt!

    1. I swear a few things in my cart have dropped slightly in price over the past few weeks. I'm in Canada so I thought it might be a Canadian thing.

I'm pretty sure the cotton No. 2 skirts dropped from $136 to $128 and the No. 2 in Medallion Paisley dropped from $156 to $148. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I losing my mind?

  38. Stopped in to make a return today and tried on a few things.

Like Rynetta, I *love* the Silk Butterfly Blouse, though it's expensive and I will wait for sale and if it doesnt' go on sale, well then, that's that.

I take a 2 in Perfect Shirts and a 0 in the Blythe and Boy Shirts. For the Butterfly shirt, I needed a 0. I love the color, which is darker in person than online, but surprisingly a rich color for spring. I thought it was a daring choice. I like it.

I tried on the Liberty Toothpicks--the blue colorway. I am usually either a 26 or 27 in Toothpicks. In the Geometric Print (black and white) I was a 26; in the bow cords a 27. For these Liberty prints, I would definitely need a 27. They are lovely pants, but I find the fabric really hard. Which I guess is how pants used to be. I wouldn't pay full price.

I tried on the Pixilated Houndstooth skirt. And here is where I must issue a caveat--JCrew bottoms often don't work for me. I suspect I need petite sizing, but don't really want to order, return, order, return to find out. I'm also 5 foot 5 inches which to me does not suggest petite. But maybe something about my body makes me petite?

Anyway--I tried my usual size 0, which is what I wear for skirts. Maybe it was just the day and I was busy or something, but I found this material stiff, and felt as though the skirt made me look wide. I don't know. JCrew pencil skirts often don't work for me either, so we could just be a bad match. The skirt was shorter than I expected--which was nice. But though I loved the color and texture, it just didn't do much for me. Maybe on a taller person it would look better? I am going to try it again on a day when I am not so harried.

Finally--tried a cashmere cardigan. Wow. Gorgeous colors. I'm confused about the cashmere shell. I tried on an XS, but felt like the armholes were huge, but that the hips hugged and the waist was wide. I will try an XXS next time to see if it fits better. But I think maybe unless you have curves, it's a bit boxy?

Tried on a cashmere cardigan too, in size S. I think this looked okay. It fit--nice length.

Ended up coming home with nothing. I would have bought the butterfly shirt, if anything.

  39. Recived the Contessa snakeskin-bow pumps and the Everly Liberty Art Fabrics pumps for my mum today. Both are absolutely gorgeous but the Contessa is going back.
While I love the Contessa, it shows no love for my feet. This is what the women in my family refer to as 'car shoes'. There is no support at the ball of my feet which I think is necessary for shoes which such a defined arch and that are this high. You would feel every pebble and twig on the sidewalk in these. Makes me so sad because I love they way they look. I mght still consider them on a deep discount but for now, I own enough 'car shoes'.
My mum hasn't tried on the Liberty pumps to evaluate their comfort level (I'll get then to her on the weekend) but I know she will love the print. It is heavier on the pink side and looks like practically the same style as the Contessa. Heaven help us.

    1. I had the same issue with the Everly T-straps and had to return them despite a deep discount. There is no padding on the balls of the feet and it feels like you are walking on cardboard. Anyone who owns these-chime in, how do you walk?

  41. The scroll skirt arrived in the mail yesterday and while it's absolutely gorgeous, I'm afraid I'll have to return it b/c it is WAY too long on me - I'm 5'2". Normally I hem jcrew pencil skirts but to hem this one (and I'd need to hem it at least 3 or 4 inches to make it look remotely flattering) would mean losing some of the gorgeous print. Has anyone attempted to hem this skirt? For the price, I'm thinking I should return but I love this skirt!

    1. Yes, it's really cute in both colors (navy and ivory). In the ivory color, the front is layered enough that you cannot see through the daisy part. You can see the daisy detail better on the white version than on the navy. I loved them both.

  43. OT: if you buy something using your rewards card and then return the item, do you get your rewards card back? Or do you end up losing that rewards card "perk" for returing that item? I’m confused how that works.

    1. TXgirl14, in my experience, they either give you a gift card for the amt of the rewards card, or just credit the entire purchase to your original form of payment, including the amount that went on the rewards card.

    2. Since I usually pay the balance with my J Crew card if I use a reward, they have always just credited whole amount of return back to JC Card. Also I think it is like most policies for J Crew, depends on store, mood of the SA etc.

    3. Thank you both. I didn’t want to lose that “perk” if I returned my item. I did pay with my J.Crew card, my SA actually told me I had to when I checked out (I didn’t want to use it).
